Programs

Housing Rehabilitation

With the lowest standard of housing in the state, we work on homes to correct safety issues because the homeowners are not physically able or have the financial resources to improve their living conditions.

Volunteer Service Program

We house volunteers from colleges and churches that come in to work on housing and community service and stay in our dormitories in our building.

Education /Literacy

Helping with our local education, we have In-School Tutor’s that work at Southside K-8 and the McDowell County Career Technology Center and a great year-round afterschool program.

Service Learning

Working with college and church groups from all over the country so that they learn through service to the community.

Healthy Lifestyles

Offering nutrition education, workshops on health issues, and meal and food box delivery to shut-ins.

Parenting Education

To help parents understand their children’s individual needs as well as their own roles and responsibilities.

Computer-Based Education

Offering computer courses, wi-fi, and the opportunity to work to get their GED through our lab in collaboration with the Adult Learning Center.

Family Assistance Pantry

We offer food, clothing, hygiene, baby, and household items.

Job Readiness

We provide work experience for people on the Senior and Youth programs along with helping people with resumes and job searches.

Misc.

We also house college and church volunteer groups and serve as a Disaster Shelter when needed. We distribute food, new coats, shoes, diapers, blankets, book bags, and school supplies to the community. We have many special events and cultural presentations throughout the year to come together and learn, have fun, and celebrate with our families.
